Ms.
Toni Kaui
Mathematics
Aloha!
My name is Toni Kaui. I am a class of 1989 graduate of Kamehameha Kapälama.
I attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and am formally
trained as an architect. The majority of my architectural career was spent
as a commercial designer, primarily designing mall anchor department stores,
financial institutions, and educational facilities. I spent the latter part
of my career designing custom homes in Denver, Colorado.
Becoming frustrated with working with residential clients, I ventured into
teaching through an innovative program designed by the Colorado Department
of Education, which allows people with a Bachelors Degree and sufficient
credits in hard-to-place subjects to earn a provisional teaching license.
During the first three years, I taught remedial math at the high school
level, and I spent the last year teaching gifted and talented students at
the middle school level. I also coached high school girls basketball.

Basic Algebra 1, Algebra 1, and 2 is designed with the intent of continuing traditional algebra concepts through a variety of activities, which when coupled with thematic, real-life applications, allow the students to develop a greater appreciation for mathematics and its applicability within society.

”But it’s not just learning that’s important. It’s
learning what to do with what you learn and learning why you learn things
at all that matters.”
Norton Juster
The Phantom Tollbooth
A mind is a child’s most powerful tool. With a mind filled with passion,
motivation, and determination, a child can travel to places that he or she
can never reach or imagine. As a teacher, I am fortunate enough to teach
children about life, and they have the power to teach me what life is all
about. I am committed to each and every child that walks through my door.
I teach them that with a passion for learning, the motivation to strive
to achieve the unimaginable, and the determination to continue their journey
regardless of obstacles, they can realize all of their dreams.
