I believe that as educators, we must put students first and make our decisions
based on what is best for them. Their intellectual, social, and moral development
should be our primary consideration.
I believe that the educational environment should be a caring and supportive
place in which all students are valued and respected. Students need to feel
comfortable and safe at school.
Students also need a structured school environment in which they are aware
of the expectations and consequences. Educators need to be firm, fair and
consistent when dealing with discipline issues.
I believe that students should be actively engaged in their learning. Lessons
should be thoughtfully planned, integrated and student centered. Feedback
is important and should be specific and ongoing.
I believe that schools are a place where students learn about the world
and themselves. Content is important, but problem solving and critical thinking
skills are crucial as well. Students need to learn how to access and analyze
information, ask critical questions, and solve problems.
Schools should provide an environment where students learn responsibility,
life skills, and ethical and moral values. Making positive choices, cooperation,
and basic values such as integrity and honesty need to be taught and modeled.
Students come to our classroom with a broad range of skills and backgrounds.
I believe that all students can learn and do so in different ways. Teachers
need to use a variety of teaching methods and provide individualized instruction
to meet the needs of all students.
Today’s world is complex with many challenges and opportunities. It
is our responsibility as educators to prepare our children and give them
strong moral character to become successful and contributing members of
society.
