Teacher and Course Information

Ms. Solveig Lamberg
English Language Arts /
Personal Computer Applications

Aloha parents and students and welcome to our learning community. I am teaching English 12 and PC Applications this year. Both classes are taught in a computer classroom which should allow us to experience exciting changes to our daily tasks and other assignments. Since we live in a world which is becoming more and more globalize, our access to technology can only strengthen our understanding of our subject matter as it evolves into the future. I am excited and honored to be a teacher at Kamehameha Schools at this time. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Course Overview

English 12: English 12 covers practice in writing and mechanics and literature and film as they serve to demonstrate the individual’s relationship to him or herself, to his family and to the world at large. We will explore works from the Hawaiian, Biblical and British world.

PC Application: PC applications (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, Desktop Publisher) are mastered using a self-paced, interactive program. Even though the course is self-paced, there are expectations of what is needed to earn a good grade in this class.

Instructors Philosophy of Education

We live in times of rapid change and our methods and philosophy of education must also change. An almost infinite amount of knowledge is produced daily and our teaching must reflect this. Our students must learn how to thrive in this environment. To meet these goals I set my classroom up as a workshop guiding students through the acquisition of skills which will let them navigate their world effectively and acquire the knowledge they need. I lecture little; I emphasize skills in writing and reading, computer literacy, and inquiry. When these skills are mastered, the world opens up.

Ke `Ano, Club Advisor or Coach - Overview

12th Grade Ke`Ano focuses on college and what happens after a student graduates from Kamehameha Schools. In addition, spiritual and character development units are also presented.

Education and Background Experience

Before coming to Kamehameha Schools I taught at a charter school in Puna and a middle school in Kohala. Before teaching at the secondary level, I taught first and second semester writing for three years at a community college on the East Coast. Prior to teaching, I worked in public relations, as an editor and proofreader for a publisher on the East Coast and as a subtitler and translator of Norwegian. I hold a Masters Degree in English from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and and another one in Secondary Education from Phoenix University Online. I also studied linguistics at the University of Oslo.

Interest & Hobbies

My main interest is my dog, Romeo. I spend much of my free time walking and playing with him. Recently I was told that he was not well socialized, so we are taking obedience classes together this fall. My other interests are professional and range from technology to medieval drama.
