Kamehameha Schools Traditional Song Collection
Available to all high school students at Keku'iapoiwa Learning Center: Kamehameha Schools traditional song collection in portfolios with song sheets and part-learning CDs for sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. There are enough for every student to sign-out a portfolio and learn their respective vocal parts on their own.
Binder for Choral Students
Choral students are issued a binder with all repertoire and, to earn extra credit points, may take these home with part-learning CDs. Binders and pencils are required at every rehearsal.

Performing Arts --Choral Director
Michael Springer, born and raised in Hilo , Hawai`i. My wife is a teacher at Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School. Our four children are all Kamehameha Schools graduates.

Concert Glee
Our showpiece choral ensemble is often called to perform, representing Kamehameha Schools.
Choir 1 & 2
Beginning and intermediate level training in choral singing, often performing with Concert Glee students.
Seminar in Performing Arts, Arts & Communication Academy
One of the Senior Legacy courses that seniors may select to fulfill their “capstone” graduation requirement.
Na Mele O Kamehameha
Time is devoted during the high school Ke `Ano period to rehearse the entire high school student body in choral selections for performance at Founder's Day, Hö`ike, Senior class trip to Mauna `Ala (O`ahu), Baccalaureate and Commencement.
Music Theory
Course designed to give a college preparatory level of study in the rudiments and mechanics of notation, composition, arranging and other high level experiences in music theory.

My philosophy of education is based upon my love and respect for the musical
arts. My values directly related to music education are aligned with the
following beliefs and assumptions from the Music Educators National Conference's
Committee on Performance Standards:
- Every student can learn music.
- Music instruction should begin in the preschool years.
- Assessment in music is not only possible but necessary to improve learning and music and life skills.

Education
- Graduated from: St. Joseph High School , Hilo
- University of Hawai`i at Hilo , B.A. in Liberal Studies, Certificates in Elementary and Secondary Music, Professional Teaching Certificate
Musical Experience
- Professional for-hire musician on piano and pipe organ since 1976.
- Serving as organist and accompanist at the First United Protestant Church and the Haili Church in Hilo since 1976.
- Orchestra musician for the Kona Music Society, Ho`olu Pila Orchestra, Volcano Arts Center, University of Hawai`i at Hilo Performing Arts Department.
- Life membership in the American Choral Directors Association.
- Music Teacher with the State of Hawai`i Department of Education 1981 – 2002, selected Hawai`i District Teacher of the Year 2000.
- Started our high school choral music program Fall 2002.
- Musical composition and arranging
- Travel
- Cooking (in large quantities!) for my family
