Aloha! I relocated from Southern California in 2002 after the events of 9/11 convinced me to make a career change.

I'm not a teacher by trade but was a research biologist for over 8 years in biotech, pharmaceutical, and forensic, pathological, and government laboratories.

Course Overview

Biological Science Curriculum Study (BSCS) Biology is year long course which focuses on fundamental principles and concepts of biological sciences. The course is not based on memorization of isolated facts and vocabulary, but instead a curriculum which brings experimental science into the classroom. The course uses an inquiry based approach in addressing multiple biological concepts. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their depth of understanding in multiple ways throughout the year and will contribute in the assessment of the learning process. A main component in this course is conducting experimental laboratories. Students will learn how to use experimentation to answer questions they may have about their world. Students will work collectively on research teams in experimental design, execution, and publication of their findings. To unite the concepts learned in the course, students will also be engaged in long term projects which will require students to apply learned knowledge and present this information in formal presentations. I really enjoy teaching the course because at the end of the year, my students are able to use the tools they have learned and apply to life.
