Introduction to Workshop Technology (IWT) - This course is designed as
a prerequisite for all Engineering & Design Academy students. Its content
serves as the foundation for student exploration in modern day workshop
techniques. Students will gain exposure through the use of hand tools, pneumatic
tools, power tools, machinery and equipment used daily on real world job
sites and manufacturing facilities. Emphasis will be geared towards fundamental
comprehension of safety practices and proper use of all equipment and materials.
Construction Drafting & Documents (CDD) - This course is recommended
as a prerequisite for all Engineering & Design Academy students. Fundamental
exploration of manual drawing and drafting techniques are combined with
exposure to principals of engineering and architectural design. Students
will learn to draw and read simple blueprints by designing and preparing
their own simple house plan. Students will be instructed on the importance
of specifications and processes required for building permit submittals.
Students will be exposed to construction methods and materials used in modern
day industry. Cultural significance and the relevance of ancient Hawaiian
architecture, engineering and construction are constantly woven into the
curriculum.
Construction Technology 1 (CT1) - This course explores the principals and
practices used in modern day construction technology. Students will learn
to effectively utilize the design process and ultimately fabricate projects
based on individual as well as team-based participation. Simply structures
will be designed as components for use on full-scale projects. Students
will explore the fundamental aspects of blueprint reading, manual drawing
and drafting techniques combined with exposure to principals of engineering.
Projects will expose students to real-world situations experienced by those
in the construction trades. Cultural significance and the relevance of ancient
Hawaiian architecture, engineering and construction are included.
Construction Technology 2 (CT2) - This course explores advanced principals
and practices used in modern day construction technology. Student project
complexity, craftsmanship and overall exploration of subject will be our
goal. This is the most advanced course in the construction pathway. Students
are expected to be job, trade school, community college or 4 year college
ready upon completion of this course.
Architectural Design Drafting (ADD) - This course explores the design process
associated with residential and light commercial construction projects.
Students will work on individual as well as team-based projects, thus simulating
the working environment of a design/build company. Working drawings, specifications,
materials lists, cost analysis and feasibility reports will accompany each
project. Upon completion of this course students will be able to perform
tasks required for entry-level drafters in the construction trades or the
confidence to continue their training and education at the post secondary
level.
Seminar Engineering & Design - Construction (CS) - This course is designed
as a supporting component to the student’s senior legacy project.
Students will select a topic that is of interest to their individual passions.
They will design and construct a project utilizing their learned skill sets
developed in their chosen academy pathway. Completed projects will be presented,
then given to an organization, club, campus or Kupuna as their legacy of
accomplishment.

I have spent my professional career (20+ yrs.) working in industry as a designer/drafter based in Hilo. The manao I have gained has come from actual, not virtual experiences. I am a husband, father, coach and athlete. All that I am has been gifted to me by my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I believe teaching is a natural progression. As I have been taught, so now it becomes my kuleana to share and pass on to others, of all ages, what I have been fortunate to experience.

I enjoy athletic competition. Riding dirt bike, mountain bike or road bike is more a lifestyle than a hobby. The same can be said for water sports. I have been off the mat for a few years, but wrestling is a sport I have coached and competed in for over 15 years. I enjoy playing guitar, writing songs and poetry and working with my hands. Sunbathing is always good cross-training.
