Vice Principal Mr. Phil Aganus

Aloha mai kakou,

I would like to welcome faculty, staff, students and their `ohana to Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i and to another new and exciting school year. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful summer, but with that behind us; it's time for all of us to “settle in” and begin to “get down to business.” The “business” at hand is to create, with the assistance of our extraordinary high school faculty and staff, a memorable year for all. It is our mission here at Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i High School to deliver the most challenging and life inspiring educational experiences to all of our students and to build lasting relationships with them and their families. It is this challenge that keeps life as a student at KSHHS ever-changing and exciting. Our faculty and staff are committed to giving every child the best educational experience possible.

With that said, I again welcome all of you to the “Kamehameha Experience”. Please view our site and enjoy.

In addition, should you have any questions or concerns regarding your child or our program, feel free to contact me either by phone at (808)982-0609 or via email at phaganus@ksbe.edu . I wish everyone the best this upcoming school year and say to you all IMUA KAMEHAMEHA!

Me ka ha`aha`a,
Phil Aganus

Aloha Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i `Ohana,

How blessed we have been to witness the success of three graduating classes in 2006, 2007 and 2008.  With Ke Akua’s guidance and the remarkable foresight of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, we are able to provide world-class education for our Hawaiian students on Hawai‘i island.  As our recent graduates have, I encourage you to embrace all the learning opportunities that await you and accept the gift that is now yours.

E ho‘okipa mai, welcome to the 2008-2009 school year as we continue to forge ahead in eager anticipation of more stellar performances academically, athletically, spiritually and in the nature of giving truly exemplified in your service learning efforts.  Like Pauahi, you, our students, faculty and staff, and parents give so much in so many ways.  What a prideful way to honor the legacy of our very generous princess.

As our school year progresses with 1120 students and nearly 235 faculty and staff, we are ever mindful of the significant kuleana we have been entrusted with.  That said, it is imperative that we, as Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i ‘ohana, honor the legacy in the most exemplary manner.

I am very proud of our students.  They do stand out as Hawaiian leaders with the potential and capacity for building positive platforms for intergenerational change.  Additionally, and as a direct result of our Educational Strategic Plan and the goals of our CEO, we will continue to build this same potential for Hawaiian keiki who do not attend our campus through our continued support of Outreach.

E ho‘omau, persevere, continue to move forward as you as a student, faculty, staff member, or ‘ohana accept this kuleana to continue the legacy, for yourself, your Lähui, and for Pauahi.

I mua Kamehameha!
