Aloha kakou!
We welcome our students and their ‘ohana into the Business and Leadership
Academy.
As your teachers, we have over 58 years of teaching experience, including
all or parts of 40 years at the Kamehameha Schools, both on Hawai’i
and O’ahu. We also have experience outside of education in the fields
of business management, small business entrepreneurship, travel service
industry including food service, and various retail ventures. Two of us
are KS boarding graduates. We grew up on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Kaua`i,
and O’ahu, as well as in the state of Washington. As well as teaching,
we have many other kuleana at the school, including career guidance and
counseling of academy students, coaching, class and club advising and professional
mentoring to name several. We are working to create a learning environment
that prepares our students for the expectations and challenges of the world
after high school. Our academy curriculum is based on real-life experiences;
with this principle in mind, our students will be engaging in service learning
projects our in our communities throughout the year.
Ke Ali’i Bernice Pauahi Bishop’s mission “to educate
children and youth of Hawaiian ancestry to become good and industrious men
and women” is our guiding principle. Without ethical leadership, we
cannot fully achieve our Princess’s intention. We invite students
and their ‘ohana to continue with us on this journey toward principled
learning and living.
O ke kahuna mamua, mahope ke kukulu: The site first, and then the building.
Learn all you can, then practice. (Pukui, Olelo Noeau).
I mua, Business and Leadership Academy. I mua, Kamehameha.
