Introduction

The population of homeless in our community is growing. They are in our public parks, on our beaches, in front of stores and in parking lots. Our community is having mixed feelings. Many feel that the homeless need to go somewhere else or get jobs and buy their own homes. Just as many feel that we need to do more to help. Some say that we can’t do anything about it so why even bother?

The newspaper is an important community resource. It gives information and provides a place for citizens to express their opinions. For this assignment, let’s imagine that we belong to a community in which our newspaper has decided to publish news stories and editorial letters about the issue of homelessness. By doing so, the newspaper hopes to help our community gain a greater understanding and take positive action.
