Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i Campus: Teacher Profile

Some years ago, in the little village of Pahoa, a young couple celebrated the birth of their first girl child. This fourth child was named Hazel. So begins the story of a quiet, shy girl who in her later years, becomes an elementary computer teacher at Kamehameha Schools, Hawai'i Campus. That's me, Hazel Nakano.

After earning my Bachelor of Education degree (with a minor in sociology) from Universisty of Hawai'i Manoa, I embarked on a long teaching career at Waiakea Elementary. While studying to complete my fifth year diploma and amassing many credit hours in various subject areas, I discovered my love of technology.

I love the beautiful and calming things in life...flowers, nature, but still enjoy the beauty of our man-made environment. Raising three beautiful daughters, I hope to have instilled in them, that same awareness of LIFE! and the responsibility that comes with having a meaningful life, yet having a sense of adventure in their lives.

And now, I've entered a phase of my life that is the most joyful...a teaching position at Kamehameha Schools, working with beautiful, loving keiki and colleagues.

A growing family of grandchildren adds spice, warmth, and sweets to my life. It's a joyful time!
